Gear Jammer’s Delight—G-Force Racing Transmissions

At the core, drag racing is a fun sport that can be enjoyed by a wide range of people. Many are hooked after their first pass and soon after the challenges begin. We all want more power, a harder launch and more top speed. One of the biggest decisions you’ll make comes when it’s time to select a transmission. Stick or auto? That’s the big decision and often your choice depends on mindset, budget and class rules.

Any stick racer will tell you there’s nothing quite like dumping the clutch and rowing the shifter in a manual transmission-equipped vehicle. Throwing clean, crisp powershifts gives the driver a special connection to the car—and truly makes you a direct part of the acceleration process.

In the quest for stick supremacy, many have turned to G-Force Racing Transmissions (Cleona, Pa.) for their gear-jamming needs. G-Force offers a complete line of manual 4-, 5-, and 6-speed gearboxes for street, street/strip and all-out drag racing (as well as other forms of motorsports). In fact, many NMRA and NMCA drivers have won races and championships using G-Force transmissions along with its accompanying brand Long Shifters.

One such racer is Leonard Long, owner of G-Force Racing Transmissions and Long Shifters, who has captured a multitude of Nitto championship rings in NMCA Dart NA 10.5 (including the 2022 title) with his trusty 7-second Ford Mustang.

Not only are G-Force Racing Transmission stronger than stock, they offer endless gear ratios options and the team offers technical support for all it’s customers. You’ll find a G-Force version of most popular transmissions, and you can upgrade the internals of many existing units. Additionally, there are options for aluminum and magnesium cases on some transmissions to save weight and material polishing for better performance and durability.

The company's products are engineered using the most up-to-date CNC machining technology and computerized inspection equipment to optimize accuracy and repeatability. Since 1979, Long's has manufactured parts for the aerospace industry and military fighter jet contractors, assuring the quality and reliability of their components meets or exceeds the highest standards. Long's research and development team continually strives to design components that are stronger, lighter, or more efficient.

We caught up with Mike Long, Leonard’s son, at the PRI show and he gave us a tour of the booth and he walked us through many of the popular transmission. This included the G-Force T5, the G101A commonly used in NMRA Coyote Stock, along with the GF-5R and the GF2000. Mike explained the differences between a clutch-assisted box and a clutchless, along with how H-pattern shifters compare to V-Gate units.
