Nearly a month ago the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals had a successful launch with the Muscle Car Mayhem event at Bradenton Motorsports Park. Nineteen VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod cars came to battle on the famous Florida-based drag strip as they chase for a championship and the right to wear the Nitto Tire Diamond Tree ring. Joe Baker captured the number one qualifying position with his supercharged C7 Corvette thanks to a 3.728 at 201.20 mph, and he was closely followed by the turbocharged Camaro of former NMCA champion Steve Summers, who ran a 3.762 at 212.31 mph. The field was a mix of nitrous-burning, supercharged, and turbocharged entries with Kyle Megginson holding down the 16^thqualified spot with his Musi-powered 1969 Camaro that is owned by the Bankston Boyz Racing team. In eliminations it was all about the ProCharger-blown, PTP Racing tuned 1963 Corvette owned and driven by Tom Blincoe, who ran consistent 3.70s at over 200 mph to weave his way through the field. Patrick Barnhill of PTP Racing is the crew chief and he uses a HaltechElite 2500 engine management system to keep the car running at the top of the category. The Kentucky resident faced off against longtime NMCA racer Jim Widener in the final round. Blincoe didn't miss a beat and unleashed a 3.756 at 201.02 mph to take the category win. To his credit, Widener ran career best times throughout eliminations with his BES Racing 944ci monster engine, which gets a healthy dose of nitrous oxide courtesy of Induction Solutions. BES Racing's Tony Bischoff is the crew chief and tunes the car using a Holley EFI Dominator. Widener shook the tires in the final round, giving up the win to Blincoe but enjoyed his first-ever final round in Pro Mod competition with the NMCA.
