Friday Coverage Nitrous Supply NMCA World Street Finals presented by Chevrolet Performance

Randy Adler is back in VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod after spending most of the season making upgrades to his screw-blown 1957 Chevy. While the virus left events canceled or postponed, Adler saw it as an opportunity to improve his program. He plans to come back swinging this weekend and pick up right where he left off in March. He only gets out to race a few times a year, but Rockton, Illinois' Greg Edwards is here at Lucas Oil Raceway Indy to compete in TorqStorm True Street with his beautiful 4th-Gen Camaro. The low-mileage 2002 SS is packing a 1400rwhp, Dart-based 427ci powerplant wearing twin Bullseye 76mm turbochargers. The car's best time to date is an 8.01 at 177 mph. Friday Schedule Chad Galloway has spent the past several years preparing his 1980 Camaro for Dart NA 10.5 presented by Diamond Pistons, and he's very happy to be making his debut in the high-revving category this weekend. The Indiana-based driver brings with him a big-block Chevrolet engine which he and his brother, Lane, built and topped with an Edelbrock intake and a Holley Dominator carburetor before backing with a Powerglide by FTI. Galloway also installed a cage in the car and performed some body work for a paint job at a later date, and when we visited his pit area, he and his brother, Nate, were putting vinyl letters and numbers on the car in preparation for today's qualifying. He has also driven the wheels off of it, as he competes in Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle as well as in TorqStorm Superchargers True Street. This marks his first race of the year, however, as last year, a broken crank destroyed his engine, and he had a new one built by Scott Williams. It's a 572 cubic-inch big-block Chevrolet which has helped carry the Michigan-based driver to a couple of 10.30 passes in testing this weekend. "I'm making break-in passes with the new engine, and hope to settle into the 10.00 index," said Seymore. Brian Livengood, who regularly races in NHRA Stock, is in Coan Engineering Stock/Super Stock Combo this weekend in his 1969 Camaro, which has under its hood a BES-built big-block engine which cranks out 375 horsepower. Livengood earned a win in the category at this event last year, and hopes to back it up this year, but he acknowledges that the competition is incredibly tough. On site to offer help are his daughter, Sylvia, and brother and crew chief, Tim. Bill Skillman is less than 100 points out of first place and has a solid chance of coming up with the Holley EFI Factory Super Cars championship. Some of his competition has already dropped out for the weekend as Jason Dietsch and Carl Tasca have both lost engines before qualifying has even begun. New to the NMCA and the Edelbrock Xtreme Street class, Mount Airy, North Carolina's Matt Goins will be making the first hits of 2020 here at the NMCA World Finals. He and his team thrashed until 9pm and then loaded up and drove through the night to get to Lucas Oil Raceway. Goins' 1988 Iroc-Z Camaro features a 400ci LS-based engine topped off with Frankenstein Engine Dynamics F715 heads and a Vortech V-30 supercharger. A Holley EFI system controls the power plant which has propelled the car to 4.60s in Ultra Street trim. Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center is on the manufacturer's midway this weekend and have Daren Poole-Adams 6th-Gen Camaro on display. The car features a number of Chevrolet Performance upgrades, including this Weld Racing drag wheel package that is designed to save weight while providing clearance for factory braking systems. After teasing everyone online with a Facebook picture with a parachute mounted to the back of the family's 1969 Camaro, Jordan Pennington encountered an issue with the reared during the morning test session. While you might think a '69 Camaro with dog dish hubcaps doesn't really need a parachute, this car is part of the Factory Appearing Stock Tire Racers group that is racing with the NMCA this weekend, and it packs a 560-plus-cubic-inch big-block that will likely propel it to 9-second elapsed times. Jordan's father, Terry, already holds the FAST et record at 9.77 with his L88 Corvette. Dave Fiscus is back with his Buick V-6-powered Fox-Body Mustang. He had to pull out of the Commerce, Georgia, race early after breaking a piston, but was able to get it back together a shirt while later. After laying down some good passes during the Shakedown at Virginia Motorsports Park last week, he's thinking they will be able to improve this weekend in Edelbrock Xtreme Street competition. Rob McDonnough has owned his 1967 Camaro since 1972. After making a deal at a gas station with the previous owner, McDonnough bought the F-Body for $200 and had it torn completely apart about 20 minutes after pulling into his garage. The car has always been a race car for him, and after taking a couple of decades off, he returned to racing and currently competes with the Motor City Muscle NA 9-inch class. The Tecumseh, Michigan, resident equipped his Camaro with a Gressman Powersports-built 427ci SB2-based small-block Chevy engine and rows the gears of a Liberty five speed gearbox. It's good to see Chad Neuenschwander back in Dart NA 10.5 presented by Diamond Pistons action this weekend, as he has been away from it all year, and he took that time to have a potent new engine built by Aaron Salisbury and Kuntz and Company. It's 415 cubic-inches and features a Callies crank, GRP rods and RaceTec pistons. It's topped with Edelbrock SC1 canted-valve heads massaged by Kuntz and Company and a CID cast intake, and it's backed by the same G-Force GF2000 five-speed transmission Neuenschwander has long relied on. When it's tuned up to its full potential, Neuenschwander is confident it will help him go even quicker and faster than the 7.98 and 170 mph he posted with his previous engine, which was 400 cubic-inches. Kevin Rowand brought his beautiful 2008 Z51 Corvette from Convington, Tennessee, to compete in the Chevrolet Performance Street Car Challenge and Proform Rumble. His nitrous-assisted, LS-powered Corvette put an 11.02 on the board in his 11.00 index class, he will be one to watch this weekend. [gallery columns="2" size="full" ids="18888,18887"] Andy Warren is giving it everything he has to earn his ninth or tenth championship this weekend. He's currently in the second spot, just behind tough customer Chad Brewer, in Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle, and in the third spot, just behind hotshots Doug Duell and Dan Condon, in Coan Engineering Stock/Super Stock Combo. I'm trying to focus and make it happen, said Warren. After worst points drops, I'm less than a round down from Chad Brewer in Nostalgia Muscle Car. Dan Condon decided to race NHRA Gators, so Doug Duell and I are battling it out in Stock/Super Stock Combo, and after worst points drops, I'm sitting about a round and a half down. After today, I'm feeling really good. Both cars are running great and I was .020-.035 on the tree every pass. Tim Boggs is holding down the fourth spot in Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle, and while he would like to move up at this last race of the season, he's in a tough spot with Chad Brewer, Andy Warren and Brenda Blair in the first through third spots respectively. Regardless, Boggs has had a successful season, as he led qualifying at three out of four races, and he earned a runner-up finish at the race in Florida. We caught Boggs discussing NMCA versus NMRA with Marcus Long, son of NMCA MagnaFuel Open Comp/NMRA ARP Open Comp racer Elmer Long, while also preparing his Chevy II for the Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle 11.oo index. While we're talking about records, Chris Holbrook is poised to reset both ends of the Holley EFI Factory Super Cars record after laying down a 7.63 at 183.89 mph in the first round of qualifying. He takes the top spot for now in a field that has already seen several cars bow out of the event due to mechanical problems. Jeff Rudolf is about to obliterate the speed record in VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod. In his Pro line Racing-powered and Jamie Miller-tuned Camaro, he clocked a speed of 217 mph in today's test and tune as well as the first round of qualifying, in addition to rocking a 3.707 elapsed time top take the top spot on the qualifying sheet. As a multi-time champion, Susan Roush McClenaghan is used to attending all of the MagnaFuel Open Comp races on the NMCA tour, and all of the Exedy Racing Modular Muscle races on the NMRA tour, but circumstances haven't allowed her to do that this year, and she admits to missing that momentum. Her steadfastness and her skills will see to it that she is soon right where she wants to be, and it may even be this weekend, as the Michigan resident and her 2010 Mustang powered by a supercharged Coyote engine are more than ready for MagnaFuel Open Comp qualifying. There's a certain rhythm you have when you can go to all of the races, and I'm trying to get my rhythm back, said Roush McClenaghan. I'll get there.
