Friday Coverage 16th Annual NMCA Quick Fuel Technology Bluegrass Nationals

Posted By: nmrasalesdept
Friday morning started off with a bang as an intense thunderstorm rolled through the area around 5:30am. The heavy rains abated, but we've been trading punches with mother nature this morning as we attempt to get some cars down the track and get into qualifying today. Stay tuned for an updated run schedule. In the meantime, here is some news from the pits. Chevrolet Performance Stock racer Heath Shemwell made time to come out and compete in the NMCA this weekend, but instead of his Fourth-Gen Camaro, he blew the dust off his 1969 Camaro, changed the fluids in the 383 small-block, and will be running in Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle Car this weekend. Shemwell competed in the class for several years, and claimed the 2004, 05, and 07 championships. Rick Pennington will be going his son Ricky this weekend, who captured the Magnafuel Open Comp win at the first race of the season. While Ricky will be piloting his Cobra Jet in the Stock/SuperStock Combo and his Chevelle in Open Comp, Rick will be rowing gears in the family's 283ci Malibu in the Stock/SuperStock Combo as well. Another Chevrolet Performance Stock racer that is switching classes this weekend is Hayley Rounsavall. Her father, Kevin, found some time off of work and will be piloting Ronnie Hackelton's CRC Camaro in CP Stock, and rather than risk having both cars taking running against each other, the car owner convinced Hayley to enter LME Street King with a now tuned up DR525-powered Camaro. With an unlocked ECM, a hot tuneup by Gwatney Performance Innovations, and a switch from 110 to 109 oxygenated fuel pushed the Fifth-gen Camaro to a 10.10 at 131 mph. Like most of the racers here, Mark "Woody" Woodruff is itching to get his Mickey Thompson Radial Wars C6 Corvette on track, but he's taking the opportunity to perform maintenance. Woody informed us that a recent kerfuffle with a certain worldwide retailer has him looking at a name change for his much appreciated, at-track parts service. We're guessing WoodeBay, Woodyzon, Woody List, and Woody Depot might cause some issues as well. Woody's Secret is appropriate Presenting sponsor of the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center has two cars on display in the manufacturer's midway that are both for sale. The Camaro Rolling Chassis (CRC) is a limited-production rolling chassis built to COPO specifications. As the title indicates, it comes sans power plant, transmission or rear center section, so you can finish it to fit the class of your choosing. 2016 Chevrolet Performance Stock champion Glenn Pushis put one together with a DR525 crate engine for the class, and it has obviously proved a successful combination. This one can be yours for $59,995. Also for sale is a complete 2016 COPO 427ci Camaro. Only 69 COPOs are built each year, and this particular one was equipped with a naturally aspirated 427 cubic-inch engine and TH400 automatic transmission. It's number 63 of the 69 cars built and features the Collector Appearance package, which calls for the Red Hot color paint, black accent and upgraded Bogart wheels. It has also been equipped with the Racer's Package, which includes a weight box, dual batteries and a COPO-logo's parachute. Number 63 is being offered at $120,000 New to the NMCA is X275 racer Nathan Stinson of Greenbriar, Tennessee. Stinson has owned his '74 Chevy Nova since 1986, and put it through a restoration in 2015, which included a chassis update By B&B Race Cars in Hohenwald, Tennessee, to 25.5 specs. Stinson also changed engine combinations, taking it from a Gen 1, nitrous-enhanced SBC to a turbocharged 400ci LS-based engine built by Competition Automotive Machine in Brandenburg, Kentucky, with All Pro heads, FAST EFI, and a Precision Pro Mod 85mm hairdryer. Stinson is looking to make laps in VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw this weekend to continue to fine-tune the combination. The NMCA staff has been working hard all day today, fighting the good fight against mother nature. Even the Fastest Street Car staff editor Ainsley Jacobs got in on the drying duties, displaying the utmost in concentration while piloting the mobile air blower. Race update: 5:15pm The NMCA and Beech Bend Raceway staff has been hard at work for the last several hours prepping the track and it looks like we should get underway around 5:45pm. We'll be starting with ATI Performance Products Nostalgia Super Stock and then follow that with Detroit Trueurac Nostalgia Muscle Car and Magnafuel Open Comp. Cars are in the lanes and we are racing. We repeat, WE ARE RACING! That's one Spicy Meatball! Dina Parise's supercharged Cadillac Pro Mod "Stella" is sporting some new vinyl in honor of its tiny driver with a larger than life personality. Daniel Pharris is on the property with his gorgeous Pro Mod. Everything is still shiny and new, literally, and the Larry Jeffers Race Cars-built Mustang features twin turbo, Pro Line Racing Hemi power under its hood. Josh Ledford is managing crew chief duties, including tuning the FuelTech system, and a Menscer Motorsports custom suspension setup will keep the car hooked.   Get your FIRST ROUND QUALIFYING results right <<<<HERE>>>> We've got a lot of racing to do on Saturday.
