While Sweden's Adam Flamholc has been racing in multiple series in multiple countries, he introduced his 1963 split-window Corvette to NMCA VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod last year and has been a formidable force ever since.
As a matter of fact, he was the points leader going into the 12th Annual NMRA/NMCA Nitto Tire Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing, July 27-30, 2017 at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois, and showed he was serious about holding that position by piloting his popular car to a 3.80 to set the pace in qualifying.
But in the first round of eliminations, his car shot to the right and began bouncing up and down, and despite the longtime driver's best efforts to bring it back to the straight and narrow, the car impacted the retaining wall.
Flamholc, who had won the round over Mark Wells, who masterfully avoided being collected by Flamholc's Corvette, has a very sore back, but he also had a very solid plan, and it involved borrowing a truck and trailer from Chris Duncan and driving from Route 66 Raceway to Indiana to pick up a 2012 Mustang that he had previously purchased and intended to drive at a later date.
Meanwhile, his hardworking crew had stayed behind to begin pulling from the heavily damaged but repairable Corvette its 526ci Hemi built by Flamholc's companies, HRE and MMR, and Roots-style supercharger massaged by Mike Janis, and now, they're all clocking long hours at Chris Duncan Race Cars in Chandlerville, Illinois to put them into the Mustang.
Amazingly, Flamholc plans to have the car ready in time to race at the Street Car Super Nationals, this week, Aug. 3-5, 2017 at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois. From there, he'll fly to Russia to work at a race, and then fly back to the United States to take part in the 16th Annual Honeywell Garrett NMCA All-American Nationals, Aug. 24-27 at Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio and the 16th Annual SDPC Race Shop NMCA World Street Finals, Sept. 21-24 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indiana.
Some things have to be changed (on the Mustang) to fit our engine and transmission, and some things I'm changing to fit the way I'm running my cars, said Flamholc. We are still trying to win the NMCA championship this season. I don't like to give up. If there is a way to finish something I have started, I'm trying until I don't see any solutions.
