Mike DiDomenico was on a mission in 2021.
He was determined to do very well in NMCA VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod, and to finish toward the top in points.
He accomplished that, and a lot more, in his 1968 Camaro-bodied car built by G-Force Race Cars and boasting a Noonan Hemi prepared by Rage Fuel Systems, an SSI roots supercharger and Liberty’s five-speed transmission, as he finished in the third spot in points in the incredibly competitive category.
Ready to ratchet things up, DiDomenico sat down with his son, tuner and crew chief, Sal DiDomenico, just before Christmas last year, and made some plans for their racing program for this year. One of those plans was to move  from a roots supercharger to a screw supercharger.
“We were 100 pounds heavy with the roots blower, so we were faced with either cutting a bunch of weight out of the car, which can be very expensive, or replacing our roots blower with a screw blower, and selling some of the old parts to help with the cost of the new parts” said DiDomenico, who owns and runs CNC Performance Products in Ohio with his son, Sal. “That made sense to us, so we went ahead with that.”
DiDomenico ordered a PSI screw blower through Rage Fuel Systems. While he was at it, he ordered a Ty-Drive converter drive unit to replace the unit he was previously using, and he sent his Liberty’s five-speed transmissions to Liberty’s to be freshened.
The DiDomenicos took the car to Andy McCoy Race Cars in Missouri for a new 11-inch rear end to replace the 10-inch rear end, as well as a new anti-roll bar. They ordered a center section for the new 11-inch rear end from Lazarus Race Cars, along with new rear brakes from Strange Engineering and hubs from Jerry Bickel Race Cars.

Meanwhile, DiDomenico decided to make his gorgeous car even more gorgeous by replacing its wrap with a custom paint job by R&R Auto Body, owned by fellow NMCA VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod racer Dave Roemer’s family.
“My son, Sal, and I talked about the paint scheme, and we decided to go back to the car’s original look,” said DiDomenico. “The R&R Auto Body team jumped on the car the day after I brought it over, and they worked on it every day for almost two weeks. They knocked it out of the park. Dave Kuzminski painted it Viper Red and made the stripes look like carbon fiber. It blew me away when I saw it. They went above and beyond, and I think the car looks phenomenal.”
Rage Fuel Systems spent time in the off-season massaging DiDomenico’s Noonan Hemi engine, and soon, the DiDomenicos will take the car to Rage Fuel Systems, which is in South Carolina, to have the engine installed, along with the new PSI screw blower. After some dyno-tuning, the DiDomenicos will go to a track near Rage Fuel Systems for testing.
The team, which in addition to the DiDomenicos, includes Gary Lucas, Adam Stablein and Blake Molnar, is aiming to return to NMCA competition for the first time this year at the 2nd Annual Arrington Performance NMRA/NMCA Power Festival presented by TorqStorm, July 21-24 at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan. They also have circled on their calendar the 21st Annual NMCA All-American Nationals presented by Sick the Mag, Aug. 25-28 at Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio and the 21st Annual NMCA World Street Finals presented by Chevrolet Performance, Sept. 22-25 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in Indiana.
For additional action, they also plan to take part in R&R Auto Body and DeCerbo Construction Rumble Wars Extreme 8 at the Cornwell Tools Night Under Fire, Aug. 6, at Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio.
“We’re really excited about the new paint job on the car, and the new blower, and we’re ready to get back out and see what we can do,” said DiDomenico. “Even though the championship may be out of reach this season, we plan on making as much progress as we can in preparation for next year.”
