Posted By: Event Coverage Team
As the days wind down approaching the 17th Annual NMCA World Finals Presented by Chevrolet Performance held at Lucas Oil Raceway August 20-23 many racers are eyeing a final run at a class title. Here's a quick look at points chases heading into the final race of 2018. In VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod, Jason Hamstra holds a 230-point lead over Don Walsh. While others are close, it appears Hamstra and Walsh will be battling it out. In Vortech Superchargers Street Outlaw, there is tighter two-way battle between Shawn Ayers and Daniel Pharris, with Ayers holding a 115-point advantage. Jessie Coulter holds a bit more than two round lead over Tim Knieriem, with eight other racers battling it our for top-five honors in Edelbrock Xtreme Street. Jennifer Brooke-Rice is leading the pack in ARP Nitrous Pro Street but a slip from her could allow either Jordan Ensslin or Tricia Musi to leap to the top of the class. In Holley EFI Factory Super Car, Chuck Watson holds only a 100-point lead over Geoff Turk heading into Indy while both Leonard Libersher and Scott Libersher are within striking distance. Coan Engineering Stock and Super Stock features a three way battle between Scott Libersher, Dennis Breeden and Jesse Alexandra with Libersher leading the way, but Ricky Pennington, defending class champion has an outside shot if the three above him fail to go rounds. In ATI Performance Nostalgia Super Stock four racers have a shot at the championship as Corky Bumpus, Kevin Gass and Robert Killian are separated by less than one round of racing., but Bruce Long or Doug Poskevich could slip in if they go all the way and the top three end up losing early. The same holds true in Detroit TrueTrac Nostalgia Muscle Car as Andy Warren leads Chad Brewer by just over 100-points, but both Steve Wilson or Brian Crawford could make a long shot run at the championship. Kurt Anderson holds the points lead in MagnaFuel Open Comp, but on his heels are Kelly Pierce and Susan Roush-McClenaghan. Titles, which have been all but wrapped up, include: James Lawrence in Mickey Thompson Radial Wars, David Theisen in FST Carburetors NA 10.5, and Jesse Wilson, Chevrolet Performance Stock.
