Brum Bringing Fresh Bullet to West Coast Shootout

Posted By: Mike Galimi
After zinging his Rick Watters-built big-block Chevy to 9,000 rpm pass after pass on his way to the 2015 NMCA WEST Lucas Oil NA 10.5 championship, Vic Brum decided to take it to Weidmann Racing Engines in Arizona for some rest and rejuvenation. Its cast iron Dart block was cleaned up, as it had some scarring from a broken lifter, and because that process resulted in bigger bores, the engine which was 552 cubic-inches is now a tick larger at 553 cubic-inches and features fresh aluminum BME rods and pistons. The aluminum Dart heads were delivered to Slawko Racing Heads in Pennsylvania for a valve job and to have what Brum so eloquently referred to as goobers welded off, and his Callies crank was delivered to Bullet Racing Cams in Mississippi to be straightened, as it had a small tweak in it from a dropped valve. When all of that was all said and done, the HRE sheetmetal intake and twin Holley Dominators massaged by Bob Book Racing were put back on top of the bad-to-the-bone bullet. Brum 2 I haven't raced since last November, and I don't make a good spectator, so I'm looking forward to getting this season started," said Brum, of Peoria, Arizona, who relies on a Hughes Performance-built Powerglide. "Because I missed the first race, it will be tough to do well enough in points to back up my championship, but I would like to stay competitive, and I would like to run 7.90s. We'll see how it goes this weekend. Catch Brum who's also completing work on a 91 Camaro earmarked for the same class in which he currently competes at the 6th Annual Lucas Oil NMCA West Coast Shootout, this weekend, June 17-19, 2016, at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, California. And, as an extra treat to race fans, the driver who traditionally stays on the West Coast plans to venture to the 11th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing, July 28-31, 2016, at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois.
