Board Moving to VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod

Posted By: nmrasalesdept
Because he had grandparents and a dad who raced cars, Benjamin Board grew up around the roar of engines, and because he was incredibly interested in it, he seemed destined to dive into motorsports, too. He did just that, in a 1984 S10 pickup that he bracket-raced at tracks near his family's East Peoria, Illinois home at the age of nineteen, and before long, he was in a 2003 S10 pickup tackling Top Sportsman at tracks across the country. But by 2014, he had moved to a Jerry Bickel Race Cars-built 2012 Camaro with a small-block Chevy and a ProCharger for NHRA Top Sportsman, and he introduced the car to NMCA Fastest Street Car Top Sportsman a year later and flew to a second-place finish in points. And while Board has been competitive in the car ever since and has cruised to a 6.37, he's moving on up to NMCA VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod in 2017. We started kicking around the idea of running Pro Mod while we were walking around SEMA in Las Vegas back in November, said Board. Then, once we made the decision to go that route, we suddenly had a whole lot to do. Board delivered his car to Jerry Bickel Race Cars in early January, where new mounts for the front motor plate and a second fire bottle are being installed, in addition to a new front clip to replace the previous front clip, which was damaged when the car got loose in the trailer on the way home from a race. "Jerry Bickel stepped right up to help and has been behind me since I bought the car from him," said Board. "He and his team never fail to help me succeed." Board hired Cody Barklage of Starting Line Motorsports to build a Brad Anderson Hemi topped with a Hogan's intake and fronted by a ProCharger, and while he's mum on the specs of the supercharger, he will share that it will be coupled with a Chris Alston's Chassiworks geardrive. A Bruno Lenco and a Blue Bayou Motorsports converter will help transfer the power to the pavement while the car rolls on Mickey Thompson slicks, and Ryan Micke will use a ComSync EFI system to lay the tune for Board, who will run VP Racing Fuels M1 methanol and whose sponsors include High Performance Lubricants, 101 Transport, Inc., GMH Metal Fabrication, Multi-Fire Wire, Simpson, and TPRaceShop at Tucson Raceway. While various components of his engine are still in their boxes, Board is hoping to have his hotrod ready to roll for the 15th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem, March 9-12, 2017 at Bradenton Motorsports Park. We're hoping to run 3.80s with the set-up, and then we'll try to step it up a couple months down the road, said Board, whose dad, Ben, and friend, Jeff Beckman, are on board as crew members. I'm really looking forward to moving from Top Sportsman to Xtreme Pro Mod, and running with the NMCA. I really enjoy the NMCA family and I've been wanting to do this for a while now.
