After securing the 2021 NMCA VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod championship title, Chip King isn’t resting on his laurels. Instead, the amicable driver from North Carolina is planning to come back even bigger in 2022 with more racing and more cars.

The longtime NHRA Pro Mod veteran made the move to NMCA and has been thrilled with the results, especially as his most recent season culminated in a championship.

“We’ll definitely run the whole NMCA series again in 2022 starting with the ‘Motengator’ Mustang, but I’m not sure what we’ll finish the year with,” laughed King, who regularly mixes things up in his stable.

King’s championship-winning and DreamWorks Motorsports-backed “Motengator,” a Mustang Mach 1-bodied car built by Jerry Bickel Race Cars, was a consistent performer throughout 2021 with its Joe Hornick-built Hemi and Chuck Ford roots supercharger.

For 2022, though, King will be sticking with the Mach 1 for NMCA while simultaneously running his supercharged 2019 Chevrolet Camaro in a handful of NHRA Pro Mod races, too.

As if his upcoming schedule wasn’t busy enough, King will soon be taking delivery of a third ride in his rapidly growing DreamWorks fleet: a 1970s-era Dodge Charger Daytona R/T.

“We don’t know when we’ll debut that car, but it’s a new Jerry Haas Race Cars chassis set up for a Joe Hornick Enterprises Hemi with either a roots blower or a screw blower,” King shared of the combination, which has been a “max effort” concept and includes a Quick Drive converter drive, B&J transmission, Greg Slack torque converter, and a Carmack Engineering rearend.

Going all-in with an NHRA-legal setup that will also be light enough to transition over to Outlaw Pro Mod races when needed, King can’t wait to get out and play with his new toy.

“We’ll pull a mold off of the Daytona since it’s different and then this will be one of our own bodies, built right here in Roxboro, North Carolina, and we’re excited to be able to get that out there,” he added of the B-body.

After his fans were flabbergasted by seeing the longtime Mopar man in a Ford, then confused to watch him compete in a Chevy, King is pumped to get back to his roots with the Charger, put his supporters’ concerns to rest, and chase a second NMCA VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod championship for his 2022 season.
