16th Annual Honeywell Garrett NMCA All-American Nationals Thursday Coverage

Posted By: nmrasalesdept
Today kicks off the 16th Annual Honeywell Garrett NMCA All-American Nationals here at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, and racers have enjoyed a test and tune session for much of the day. Danny Finn is competing in Magnafuel Open Comp this weekend with his 1971 'Cuda, and it' packing Hemi power! The Mopar used to have a tunnel ram sticking out of the hood and it ran high 9s with that setup, but Finn recently switched over the a factory style, low-profile dual quad setup replete with Shaker hood scoop. Also competing this weekend is Danny Finn's Son, Shawn (Left), who will be piloting his 1969 Corvette in the Boninfante Racing NA 10.5 class. Finn swapped out the small-block Chevy engine that used to reside between the Vette's swoop fenders for a DRCE1 498ci big-block Chevy powerplant that he recently went through and made several changes to. An 8.26 earlier today was right where they expected it to be and they will be looking to turn it up from there. Helping him out this weekend is lifelong friend George Farkouh (Right), who himself is here racing in the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series' Holley EFI Real Street category with his Farks Super Cars/ARH Camaro. After a bit of a hiatus, Mike Rees put his 1992 Camaro back together for Mickey Thompson Radial Wars this weekend. Rees, who is the car crew chief for Troy Coughlin's Pro Mod team, borrowed the small-block engine and ProCharger F1X-12 from his fianc Nicole Priola's car, which weighs in some 800 lbs heavier than the Camaro. Nicole will be at the wheel this weekend, and this will be the first time the car has entered competition on radials. Making the 34-hour haul from his home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, is Mike Gondziola. The C7 Corvette they brought with them his just in its second season of competition, but the team has yet to shake the new car bugs and general bad luck that has seemingly plagued them. With a Jerry Bickel chassis, Sonny's 959 engine, Tutterow lockup trans and a whole bunch of nitrous, the Corvette has all of the right parts to put down some series elapsed times. It has already gone 5.79 in the quarter-mile and Gondziola will contend the eighth-mile this weekend in VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod.
