Posted By: Event Coverage Team
We're going into our final day of the 10th Annual Chevrolet Performance LSX Shootout and the NMCA All-American Muscle Car Nationals here at Lucas Oil Raceway Indianapolis, and we've got a full day of incredible racing ahead of us. News17 Ladies and gentlemen, it's official! Georgia resident Bart Tobener made the world's first 7-second pass with an S550 Mustang, and the feat also marks him as having the world's quickest 2015 Mustang. Tobener did the deed during the third round of Edelbrock Xtreme Street on Saturday evening, and clicked off an impressive 7.991 at 171. 45 mph pass with a 1.24-second sixty-foot time with his Race Parts Solutions and Jodar Performance Products sponsored ride. Tobener's car started its life as a V6 car with 340 miles on it, and now features a 25.3 chassis by Chassis Pro, MPR-built Coyote engine, Powerglide transmission, Holley EFI, and a custom turbo kit showcasing in-house parts from Race Parts Solutions with a 76mm single turbocharger. News18 Wayne Roberts of Valley Center, Kansas, made the haul to Indy to run with the NMCA's VP Racing Fuels Pro Modified class, and this weekend is the first time out with the car since going through the blown beast from front to back. Roberts is qualified last in the 16-car field as they're still sorting out some issues, but the team's relaxed look in the pits this morning suggests that position doesn't bother them one bit. "We've qualified last before and we've won races that way," he told us, "anything can happen in Pro Mod." News19 Jacky McCarty's super clean Mustang is sitting on top of qualifying in Wiseco Performance Products Street Outlaw with a 4.42 at 167 mph, which was quite a good performance in this weekend's challenging conditions. the next six cars on the list are less that two tenths of a second behind, so the competition is tight going into today's eliminations. IMG_4506 It's been all hands on deck in Leonard Long's pit after the engine in his NA 10.5 Mustang nosed over on its last qualifying pass. The crew was up until 2am pulling Evil 2 from between the frame rails, and Evil 1 is going back in to get the team through eliminations. The 2015 Quick Lane of Downs Ford NA 10.5 champion qualified 5th on Saturday with an 8.11 at 168 mph. Drift Part of this weekend's entertainment was the Midwest Drift Union burning rubber in the circle track on property on Saturday. Over 20 cars were on hand with drivers of varying levels of expertise driving everything from Corvettes to Nissan pickup trucks. News21 It was a hair-raising first round of Edelbrock Xtreme Street for Bart Tobener and David Hutnick. Tobener spun and the hit and rolled forward while Hutnick, whose Camaro normally runs straight as an arrow. Hutnick's car got loose just before the eighth-mile and did a tank slapper, which had Tobener on an off the gas to avoid an accident. In the end, both cars regained traction but Tobener was too far ahead and took the round win. 2016-NMCA-IN-Henry-Lee McCarty Performance's Henry Hentry Lee went for a ride at the top end of the track during his first round elimination run. When he pulled the chutes, his notchback Mustang decided to do a little dance and get loose in a big way. Lee says he couldn't find a reason for the trouble, but thinks the laundry just happened to catch the wind wrong. He got the win, and will be looking to put the hurt on his competition in round two with his Precision boosted small block Ford which is tuned by Josh Lindsey.   Final Results are in!
