10th Annual Chevrolet Performance LSX Shootout

Posted By: Event Coverage Team
10 Years of LSX Performance The Chevrolet Performance LSX Shootout celebrated its 10th anniversary at Lucas Oil Raceway Indianapolis with sunny skies and scorching hot competition. The event was the second stop on the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series tour and racers were hoping to grab the trophies and prize money available in the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle. Also at stake this year for top-ten finishers in the series is a 1969 Camaro rolling chassis plus from Real Deal Steel and the NMCA. JE Pistons Drag Radial featured LSX big hitters like Mark Carlyle, Anthony Manna, Joe DeDona, and Andy Essary among others. Manna posted a 4.51 to take number-one qualifier status, and in the final, it was Manna squaring off against Mark Carlyle's Atomic Orange Corvette. When the lights came down, Manna chopped the Tree with a .000 light. Carlyle wasn't far behind with a .045, but his Corvette knocked off the tires seconds into the run while Manna stormed to a 4.55 at 181 mph for the win. 3Coming off a win at the first stop of the CPCS series at the Chevrolet Performance Nationals, Holley EFI Real Street racer George Toll was poised to repeat his achievement having posted 7.67 at 180 mph to top the qualifying sheet. In the final round, it was Toll versus Camren Massengale, and as it wasn't quite a weekend in favor of the favorites, Toll broke traction and pedaled his Trans Am, but Massengale was gone, taking the win with an 8.13 at 177 mph to Toll's 8.40 at 172 mph. Glenn Pushis had the advantage all weekend over his fellow Chevrolet Performance Stock competitors, and was the only racer in the class to dip into the 10.3s with a 10.35 that topped qualifying. Chasing right behind him was Kevin Lumsden, and the two would be paired in the final. When the lights came down, Lumsden had problems at the hit, while Pushis drove to a 10.44 at 127 mph and the win. Twenty-nine racers entered Proform Rumble and Nicholas Massengale cut a .005 light to qualify number one. Massengale would go out early, though, and the final round pitted Cody Alumbaugh against Regina Puckett. Puckett took the starting-line advantage, but her 11.79 on an 11.75 was no match for Alumbaugh's 11.508 on an 11.50.2 LME Street King has been a hugely popular class since being split off from Rumble over the winter, and here in Indy, it was Joey Moore of Terre Haute, Indiana, topping the 22-car list in qualifying. As Sunday came to a close, it was 2015 Street King champion Al Corda facing Matt Feltner. It was an easy win for Corda as Feltner fouled at the start with a .041 red light. Frequent Gear Vendors True Street competitor Tim LeMay topped the charts on Saturday with his twin-turbocharged Buick Regal. LeMay drove to an 8.60, a 9.80, and then an 8.38 to average 8.92 in his G-body coupe. Trailing not far behind was Terry Faust and his fierce 2002 Corvette, which clocked a 9.33 average for the runner up position. The turbocharged 73 Camaro of Adam Hodson charged to the 9-second win with a 9.48 average while fellow Corvette owner Phil Frantz collected the 10-second award with his supercharged machine by averaging 10.17 seconds.4 Dietrich Bollanger drove his 02 Camaro to an 11.08 average and the class win, while Nicholas Massengale grabbed the 12-second award (12.09), Chevrolet Performance Stock racer Keith Vaughn took the 13-second award in his GTO (13.07), and Brian Palcisko was awarded the 15-second award in his LS-powered Saab 9-7X which averaged 15.13. The Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series moves to its next stop at the 15th Annual NMCA Worlds Street Finals in Norwalk, Ohio, at Summit Motorsports Park on August 25-28.
