Commerce, Georgia - Car Show Results

13th Annual Scoggin Dickey Parts Center NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals Presented by MAHLE Motorsport By Steve Turner Photos by the author and courtesy of the Unstabled Mates Mustang Club It was a bittersweet scene as the 13th Annual Scoggin Dickey Parts Center NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals Presented by MAHLE Motorsport rolled into Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia. It would be the final time that NMCA and NMRA competitors and fans would attend an event at the historic track. The same could be said for the participants in the car show. Both series came together on the show field, which was small but mighty on a rainy Saturday, but blossomed to a full field on a sunny Sunday. In all, a wide variety of muscle machines competed to take home trophies from the show hosted by the Unstabled Mates Mustang Club. A regular in the NMCA car show field at Atlanta Dragway, Greg Cheek wrapped up not one but two awards at the final event. The Suwanee, Georgia, resident and his 1970 Chevelle SS landed both the Best of Show and Best GM honors. Featuring a built 454 engine with just the right amount of polish, shine, and braided lines under the hood, the red ride features a clean exterior and gleaming wheels. It is definitely a fine example of the classic Chevelle. The Bowtie Brigade was definitely on a roll at the 13th Annual Scoggin Dickey Parts Center NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals Presented by MAHLE Motorsport. April Weaver?s 1969 Camaro Z28 earned the Best Paint & Body honors. Due to the rain on Saturday, the car show field was small but mighty. Of the brave souls enduring a bit of moisture, Chris Davidson of Clarksville, Georgia, scored a Director?s Choice award with his 1989 Mustang LX coupe. To stay dry, Saturday?s car show winners gathered under the tent to receive their hardware. Competition can be just as fierce on the show field as it is on the racetrack. In both spots it is rare for one car to triumph in two classes. That said, Randy West?s 1968 Camaro definitely stood out from the crowd. Its mean and clean exterior features some tasteful, red accents. That them carries on under the hood and in the cabin. It was in those two places it really shined. His ride rode away with both the Best Engine and Best Interior awards in Georgia. Over on the Mopar team, it was Andrew Orstadius of Jefferson, Georgia, flying the flag with his lightly modified 1967 Dodge Coronet. It nabbed the Best Chrysler of Show award. When it comes to Ford Mustangs, it is hard to argue with a clean Terminator. Rolling on gleaming CCW wheels and boosted by a Whipple supercharger breathing through a JLT cold-air intake, Chad Berry?s 2004 SVT Mustang Cobra slithered away with the Best SVT & Cobra Mustang award. Earning the Best Chrysler A-Body at the 13th Annual Scoggin Dickey Parts Center NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals Presented by MAHLE Motorsport was Wade Byers? 1972 Plymouth Roadrunner, which is powered by a 440 Six-Pack. On the classic Mustang side, it was no concours machine that took home a trophy. Instead, Ron Davis? nicely restomodded 1965 Mustang, powered by an Edelbrock crate engine with stack injection, rumbled away with the Best Mustang ?64-?70 award. Here?s the final group of NMCA and NMRA car show winners, who gathered on Sunday, to carry home awards from Atlanta Dragway. Thanks to the Unstabled Mates Mustang Club for hosting a great last show.
