Twice-a-year Ford Performance Cobra Jets gather to celebrate the heritage and racing tradition of the famed factory drag race vehicle. The bi-annual Ford Performance Cobra Jet Showdown presented by Watson Racing launches into action during the Nitrous Supply NMRA/NMCA All-American Nationals August 27-30, 2020 at Summit Motorsports Park (Norwalk, Ohio).
For the ninth year in a row the biggest names in Cobra Jet racing have descended upon America’s racetrack for the special shootout and NMCA competition. Heavy hitters like Chuck Watson Sr., Gardner Stone, Gary Richard, Chris Holbrook and Carl Tasca Sr. will join previous winners Paul Roderick, Rod Heltzel, Jack Zebich, and Michelle Bongiovanni in a wild shootout with the true factory hot rods.
“It has been an honor to manufacture the Cobra Jet for Ford and the NMCA gives us a wonderful place to race these cars. We always look forward to sponsoring the Ford Performance Cobra Jet Showdown, especially at the All-American Nationals since it is so closed to our Michigan facility,” commented Chuck Watson Sr., founder of Watson Racing.
Rollie Miller, NMCA General Manager and National Event Director also shared his enthusiasm for these powerful muscle cars. “The Cobra Jet program has been entrenched in NMRA and NMCA drag racing since the modern vehicle was released in 2008. The Cobra Jet Showdown has been a great addition to our events as we celebrate both the modern and vintage Cobra Jet vehicles.” The weekend concludes with a party in the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle as the winner is presented with a custom Edelbrock Victor award.
