Alm Bringing New MPR Bullet to NMCA and NMRA

Tony Alm and his formidable Fox body Mustang were forces to be reckoned with last year in NMCA Edelbrock Xtreme Street, as he drove to a win, a runner-up and elapsed-time and top-speed records with his track-blistering 7.60 and 187 mph.

All of that, as well as his solid second place finish in the class points, is a nod to his steely resolve and stout combination, which consisted of an 8.2-deck 363 cubic-inch small-block Ford built by Tim Eichhorn of MPR Racing Engines, Edelbrock Victor heads, 76mm Precision turbo, Holley fuel injection set-up, ATF Turbo Glide transmission and ProTorque converter.

But citing that he had maxed out his combination, he looked to Eichborn to build him a new engine for 2016. It features a 9.5 deck 400 cubic-inch small-block Ford wearing Trick Flow TFS High Port heads and a Wilson intake, and it’s set-up with a Dailey dry-sump oiling system with a billet aluminum pan and pumps, which Alm is confident will give him a little more horsepower and be a more efficient oiling system. He’ll have an arsenal of Precision turbos at the ready so that he can run a variety of classes, including a 76mm, 85mm and 94mm, and Steve Lee of Thunder Autosports will continue to help him lay a tune.

Additionally, Alm’s car has spent time at Tig Vision in Florida, where the front-end was reworked, and where hot-side and cold-side plumbing for the turbo as well as a new set of headers were fabricated. A new one-piece carbon fiber front clip by Schoneck Composites will soon be in place.

Florida resident Alm will begin his race season with a bit of NMRA VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw action at the 22nd Annual Nitto Spring Break Shootout, March 3-6, 2016 at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, and he said he’ll likely follow that by mixing it up in NMCA Edelbrock Xtreme Street at the 14th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem, March 10-13, also at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. He’ll also enter the Ultra Street ring at races across the country.

“As far as which one of those classes will be the best home for my combination and me, I’ll have to wait to find out after my engine is on the dyno,” said Alm. “But I can definitely run and be competitive in all of those classes with my new engine.”
