What does everyone think of the new Points system ?

http://www.nmcadigital.com/rules/pointsystem.html
^^^^^^^^^just in case you missed it

Mainly:

"Points will be accumulated from the NMCA events using the best points totals accumulated at 6 of 7 events"

and

"The 2009 NMCA/EDELBROCK Drag Racing Series will feature a four race regular season, followed by a three race NMCA Race for the Rings Countdown. "

Discuss.....Like or Dislike ? Please vote in the poll.

Points

Well, I didn't like it when Nascar went that route and really didn't like it when NHRA played follow the leader. Looks like here we go again.
Can't make a run for it anyway...so take it for what it's worth.

Foreword:
I have not run this series before but have quite a bit of experience chasing points so......

This prevents some of us with a pretty interesting dilemna. I cannot make the first two races of the NMCA schedule due to scheduling conflicts with the series where I am the defending champion. I was looking at five races to campaign for the championship. This is going to be problematic at best. Not only do I have to win/runner-up at the third and fourth races but I will also have to use a different car for the Super Bowl race and the All-Stars race. Actually....I will have to have two cars at Reading as well. A Hemi car for the shootout and another for EFI. At the All Stars I will have to run THREE cars.

This gauntlet we are being forced to run with the new points system and "one car/one driver" rules should be worth more at the end of the season than a ring and jacket.

I started to write a long post but changed my mind.
Has anyone attempted an analysis on how this impacts last year?

Late Model EFI
After four races
points leader Mike Stephens was the only 4 race race and had 1410 point with a 100 pt bonus he would have 1510.

After the same four races, fourth place racer John McPartlin had 2 races to his credit for 755 points. But with the point resetting he would still be fourth in pints but only 450 pts back with 1160 instead of 755!!! He would have gained 405 points despite not being eligible for the 100 pt four race bonus which Mike did get.

MAJOR win for John and LOSS for Mike.

It seems to me the point system, at least in EFI favors someone who cannot make all the races in the beginning of the season.

In fact, one-race racer John Phillips would have picked up 275 points on the leader.

I cannot find my final race points spreadsheet to figure who would have won the title.

It seems to me if you miss two races in the beginning of the year this new system is to your advantage not disadvantage.

I think I like it.

Except I am still not allowed to race the special races and EFI.
The more I type the more I think this change benefits me.
I will miss the first race due to the Corvette Shootout. But can still count 3 of the first four. Likely pick up points doing it. Then the last three I have to throw out one but I race the LSX Shootout at Memphis so that would be my throwaway. zmax is still a problem I would actually have to throwaway 2 of the last three .

I rambled, I know, it's cause I care

Tighten up on the drums one time

Hi everybody
I'm Archie Bell of the Drells
From Houston, Texas
We don't only sing but we dance
Just as good as we walk
In Houston we just started a new dance
Called the Tighten Up

Yeah, you do the tighten up
Yeah, now
I said, if you can do it now
It sure would be tough
Now look here, come on now
Now make it mellow

Let's tighten it up now
Do the tighten up
Everybody can do it now
So get to it

I'm not sure if they missed this or not but on the Super Bowl final rounds, they have nss vs. FS with a split tree, but they have NMC with a .500 pro tree against T/L.

I'm not sure how I feel about the rules. I'll have to read it over a couple times to get a full understanding of it.

Okay on Open Comp, the points resetting would not have made a difference except for three drivers two for only 25 pts one driver would have gotten the 100 bonus for four races but would not have changed his position at that point.

A closer look at EFI and check this out...second place Boogie would have gone from 485 pts out of first to 150 pts out of first.

AND you said you do NOT like the points system?

My opinion is that when NASCAR changed the rules to the "Chase" it sucked...and still does...NHRA and their Countdown sucked and still does....and so does their 1000ft rule.........and now we have this shit.......

Qualifying points are good........a Chase, Countdown or what ya wanna call it sucks.

A points fund does NOT Suck.

Leave it alone and lets race.

Basically in a class with few regulars, yes but in a large class like OC with many regulars the only difference I see is you will be forced to drop one of the last three races instead of 2 of 7.

Not sure, did qualifying points change? I don't have those handy and they already changed the rule book
