I have a question for the Late Model EFI class.
I'll use my car as the example.
For those that do not know I have a 1998 Pontiac Trans Am LS1.

The rules say
"Pontiac Trans Am LS1, 1998-2002"

Does this mean I can only use a LS1 engine ? Would it be illegal if I put a LS2, LS6, or LS7 engine or block in my car ?

The LS2 has a 4 inch bore, compared to the 3.9 on the LS1
The LS6 is pretty much the same bore and stroke at a LS1 but has slightly better heads.
The LS6 I dunno the exact specs but it is a 427 cu in motor.

So if this were true that you can only use a LS1 engine in my car, does that mean I just have to keep a LS1 block in my car ? Technically there are a few F-bodies that came with a LS6 block back in 2002. What about the heads ? Would it be illegal to put LS6 heads on my LS1 block ? If that were the case ,what about aftermarket heads then ?

Hey guys,

Just a bit of info. Jeff Conley, who answers the NMCA/NMRA tech line and answers some of the tech questions here on the board, has been really sick lately. He spent several hours in the hospital in Bradenton this past weekend and hopefully will be back to his duties soon. I spoke with him last night and he is doing a bit better but is going to need some recovery time. The flu bug that is going around got ahold of him and wouldn't let go.

Ron

Bummer to hear, hope ya feel better Jeff! I know the bug has been going around northern FL as well. Hope it makes it's way somewhere else as we have a race in 2 weeks!

Back on topic....

Actually guys, Jeff took a turn for the worse. He now is in the hospital with pneumonia, but all appears to be okay. They are pumping him full of fluids, and he's expected to be out in a couple of days.

As long as the block is LS based I don't think it's a problem. If you were plannng on running a traditional style small block then you would have a problem. see ya in Bradenton.
