I was first looking for a Ford, oh did i say that , (just more races with that) but got a 93 Z28 for almost for nothing. changing it to 02 front end. Hey Tom what k member are you using?

Ron, i havn't decided on what to put on it a white Yenko stripe is my choice i like it simple, Greg wants to do some one of a kind stuff and being that Stickerdude is right next door to my shop it should be something to look out for.
Right now the car is for Street Race depending on how my money tree grows i'll go extreme Street... see ya at the track

Job Spetter came around mid day and we spent several hours working out the mounting for the twins. Keep your eyes peeled, All I will say is its going to be WICKED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would imagine that PROCHARGER will GIVE you an F3. You sure are representing them well since you are the current TRUE STREET world record holder as well as one of the fastest procharged radial cars in the country...

As for NEVER going turbo, We'll see about that...

Here's my True Street car. Plan on winning the Battle of the Brands True Street race next year in Fontana, Ca.

So far I've ran 7.17 @ 98 mph in the 8th on motor.

Did a 1.60 60 ft. the other night. On spray it should run 10.00-9.90s in the quarter.

Naw, it split at a track rental at Norwalk. I knew it was living on the edge after blowing the head gasket at Milan. I started finding bolts coming loose, I was to greedy to back down the nitrous. It finally 60' a 1.63 and went a 10.68 and split two passes later.

Yeah, you're probably right, he has some panther in him. As for the car, updates are happening each month in the mag. Still a long way to go as with any project -- it has the usual hitches associated with any project. Looks like late Spring or early summer before it becomes a driver. You're right though, it'll be a nice piece when finished.
Interesting thing I just thought about. All the cars we are building: My Buick, Jake's Maverick, and DW's Nova (Godzilla) -- if they were to be classified would be... tah dah! True Street cars.

Thanks Tom.
Little more progress last couple nights.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/82c1f2de.jpg
The edge of the fiberglass dash was wavy, had some flaws & needed to be the same thickness as the original padded dash. So, I ripped some signboard & glassed it to the inside edge of the dash.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/f560fda3.jpg
I used painters plastic (thin stuff) as a release.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/84833be1.jpg
I laid a thick bead of "kitty Hair' fiberglass filler along the mounting flange.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/e95b7bab.jpg
Screwed the dash back in place so the bead would conform to the groove to make a new form fitting edge on the dash
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/777d48e9.jpg
Trimmed the excess glass & plastic off when it started to set up, and let it set overnight so it would hold it's new shape.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/68c3355a.jpg
With a little finish work the new dash should fit much better. 8) 8) :D :D

A little reinforcement for the rear of the car where the frame was previously notched but not plated. This is all necessary because last year my cage through the package tray was just attached to plates at the trunk floor. This was ok when I had the leaf springs but when the old chassis guy put the coil overs on a crossmember between the down tubes to the trunk floor there is really no support. When I am adjusting my 12 way adjustable Strange shocks I was basically adjusting the tension of my trunk floor. So Ron Rhodes is running chromoly tubing along side the existing frame to give the tubes something to rest on. He is getting close to being finished if BlownChevyII ever stays out of the shop.

Nice Lookin' Jeep. What's in it for power?

Got it close enough for primer. Time to mount it so I can locate the steering column & install gages. What does everybody run for gages? This is going to be a pro street. Even though it will be limited I still plan to make it street legal sorta'. So I'll need the usual Tack (shift Light), Speedometer, Gas, Oil(electric no oil lines in car), Battery, Temp. Anything else? My guess is anything else can be checked on a data recorder when racing? Maybe trans. temp would be handy??

BTW: Notice I got the windshield wiper sockets back in. I flipped them upside down so the linkage will clear the intercooler duct. Now I just need to find a small simple wiper motor to operate it. Maybe there's such an animal for street rods?

Autometer it is. Got the gauges picked out I think. Today I downloaded the ones I want off the net, sized em' to the specs on the site & printed the faces out on the printer. Then I cut some PVC gauge housings on the CNC. They are a little deeper than the actual gauges but that'll insure I have ample room for the real deals down the road. The 5" tach & speedometer might or might not work. Might have to downsize to the smaller ones, but I want to try & get these in there if possible. Old geezers need big numberz'. Now I can make a bezel. That outta' keep me busy for awhile.
HeatleyRacing.... Any chance this is what you have? These are the only gauges I found that have all the features I want.

Goal is May 1st.... I plan on hanging out in B/G as I won't have vacation time for another month at the time of that race... Not to mention I should really do some local testing first.

If you rember I was unemployed at the b/g race.... In fact I got the call for my inital interview at the current job on my way home...

Ed and myself have had the car apart a time or two... Right now we have about 4 hours, and a case of beer into the dissasembly... (including the trans)

Now I need to get the motor over to my Dad's (cleaner garage) and get the heads off and over to the machine shop....

Slow progress is better than no progress. :D I'll git-er-done someday.

Got a pattern for the bezel set-up on the computer. I cut vinyl patters to tweak it 'til it fit. Cut a PVC blank for a final fit and now I'm cuttin' away on the aluminum bezel. I'm putting over sized (for this dash) gauges in it, so there's going to be some modifying to do to the fiberglass dash cover. The gauge bezel will be bolted to the chassis & the fiberglass cover will be removable for wiring access.

The Buick is coming along. Artis roughed in the trans tunnel over the weekend for the G-Force T56 and also installed the Flaming River column and box.
http://208.122.20.134/filehost/files/13/shaft.jpg
We were really worried about this since the chassis is a '67 Chevelle while the body is a '66 Buick...you know.. angles, etc., but the column and shaft went in with ease. Artis spent a lot of time on the phone with Steve Cole at Flaming River trying to figure it all out. In the end, that was time well spent as there were no clearance issues at all.

So that tells me they are worrying about making it to the deadline again. At this point Im happy with everything thats been done and I dont want him to cut any corners for the sake of having paint on it for the first race. But I have expressed my serious concerns about it being race ready for BG.. Not to mention the following weekend is the PGDs at Memphis... I decided to make a section of the bezel to see how it bent in the brake. The pic. below doesn't show how bad it looked when I pulled it out. (I made some alterations on the brake & bent it a second time and it straightened out some). I flipped the last 5 fingers over so they would come up short of the edge. Then I made a roll edge by putting a radius on the edge of a 1/2" aluminum plate. I tried it that way for the first test that distorted the raised edges & the thin center caved in because there was no support.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/04c61b40.jpg
I had a pc. of c-channel laying around so I bolted it to the brake to make a wider edge. Then I put a couple bolts in the 1/2 aluminum plate so I could put the brake fingers right at the edge w/o it slipping off. Then I made a filler pc. out of aluminum to wedge under the 1/2 plate to support the machined out center area of the bezel. The second test pc. bent perfect. Got a few things to finish on the dash cover & then it's time to bend the real deal.

Got 'er bent tonight. Got it roughed into the dash cover. Still rough but close enough that I know it will fit. The right wing is 1/2" longer than the left wing, so angles are different. I think I got it purdy' close though. Next is to cut the contour in the fiberglass for the oversized tach & speedo.

LQQKin' good Jake. I've got an Ed Quay also, but it's still in the box. Does yours fit well?

Got a little further on the dash today. I made plugs out of PVC to form the gauge wells, since these gauges are too big for the original bezel opening.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Dash14-19-08.jpg
I did the kitty hair "form the bezel to the dash deal" again. Used vinyl & spray Pam as a release agent.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Dash24-19-08.jpg
I welded some strap aluminum to the top & bottom to stiffen up the bezel & to provide a place for rubber mounting grommets.

The worst thing Romito (engine builder) did was check my old valve springs... He said that they were still pretty good after 4 years... So I agree springs have come along way, so crusing these .900 inch lift rides could happen...

We'll see what happens, maybe 2009.... That is if this economy ever comes back around....

Get it started load it up and head south to Bowling Green!!!!

No Vacation time, or I might bring it down an run with the x/s gang just to get the bugs out on a good track.... I'll be down there on Friday night about 9:30 at the host hotel....

Hi Guys,

For anyone interested, we made it to the dyno this week with the new air/water cooler installed (PTK 1200). After the first pull, two things became readily apparent, first, we DRAMATICALLY lowered the inlet temps from WA over 250' down to 82' after the pull. To be honest, in the 5.5 gal. tank it only had 15 lb of ice in the water so I know we could of had at least 20 lb of ice and the water would of been cooler--after the 3 pulls we still had a few cubes floating in the water so I hope that that would represent the 3 passes in TS. IOW, I would suspect that we can get the water even colder.

Second, we only lost 2 lb of boost with all the additional tubing. We ended up bringing the timing to 21' and leaned it out a bit to 11.0/1 At 20lb of boost @ 7050 rpm it made 721 RWHP and 713.9 FTTQ. Lidio was confident that it had more in it but erred on the safe side. We are really pleased at the outcome. We'll run it in this tune for a while and then look at swapping out our crank pulley for an 80T unit I have sitting here..........that should get us back in to 22-24 lb area. Maybe put us in the mid 700 range eventually (??). Here is a small clip thru You tube that I posted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHjjF5jWr-8

Now this is going to sound very paranoid BUT, other than practicing, how do you guys ensure that you have the water pump turned on just before you make a pass?? What I'm getting at is that I could see me forgetting to switch it on in time. Hs anyone wired in a light (red for off) or anything idiot proof like that or do you just make a final check right after the burn out before you pre stage. I know some of you are likely laughing right now but this is all new to me.

Thanks,

When I bought the steering column & related steering stuff {way back when}, the salesman sold me pin & block joints that he told me to weld to the chromoly tubes & a hex steering wheel hub. I never was a fan of welding the joints in permanent. I asked "What do I do if I need to replace it?" Cut it out, was the answer. I guess that's an option, but I prefer bolt in.... so today I ordered a couple flaming river splined joints & splined stub shafts for the tubes so it will be a bolt in not weld in deal now. They are also needle bearing u-joint type instead of the pin & block type. Then I decided to buy a wheel hub extension for the steering wheel to make it easier for my elderly self to exit the cockpit. That's all well & good but the hex wheel hub slop will be just that much sloppier ....so, I called Mark Williams & ordered a splined release hub. I should have all the stuff I need now to finish the steering portion of this deal.

So, Ann E. Body know of Ann E. Body that would like a good deal on some "X" but never used steering components?
A 3/4''x3/34' smooth bore pin & block joint, a 3/4'' smooth bore x 9/16''x26 joint (Fits a pinto R&P) & a 3/4" 3 hole mount hex steering wheel hub.

I had my chute mount made as a quick release so I dont have to keep it on the car when Im street cruising..;)

My rear plate folds down and the chute plugs in like a reese hitch, 4 bolts and the bars are off... :)

Now I need to re-do the exhaust if I really plan on crusing it, it has that X/S WAY to LOUD sound right now (4" bullets)...

Although they are expensive. Borlas do a nice job quieting down big exhaust..

No issues, here... So long as I don't have the chute on, I am street legal....

Tell that to the local law enforcement.....

I'd like to get it to be no louder than a Harley (at least I'll have an excuse then)....

Thats awesome.. Just the way I like em done. Everything off hidden out of sight !!!!!!!!

I know your pain on the exhaust. Northeast cops HATE a loud hotrod. Now I live in Weakley County TN where there is NO STATE INSPECTION so you can run em as loud as you like.. Although I always hated how loud the 69 was..

Here are a couple updates of the new 8.8 that's going in the Mav. It's got a lightened spool with 33-spline axles and a mikronite 3.73 AX gear. Oh, and I'm getting the M/T wheels beadlock'd for a story on Wednesday. The car will be on the ground tonight. Post some new pics tomorrow.

Looks great Greg!! Hey, did I see a pic of the Jeep in National Dragster a couple of weeks ago--it was in an article about converters??

I asked him the same thing when I saw the magazine. I don't know if he ever saw it.

Well, it's another small step but I figured I better post something to prove I'm still kickin'. The mold I made for the glove box way back when finally produced a part.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/GloveBoxDoorPulled.jpg

I cut the bottom of the glove box to the contour of the intercooler and glassed it in place.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/glovebox4.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Gloveboxfront.jpg

Flipped it over, cleaned up all the overlaps & danglin' tabs and gave it a couple layers of cloth to hold it together.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/gloveboxback.jpg

Got it roughed in to a 100 grit state & gave it a light coat of primer

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/GloveBoxPrimer1.jpg

I think I'm going to stop here. I'll do the finish work later when I'm ready for final paint. This little project took months (a few minutes here and there). I think I'll work on the engine compartment for my next project. I have a header tube clearance problem to address and then I'll start reconstruction of the firewall. Hopefully I can pick up the pace some on that deal.....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/dashPrimer2.jpg

The more I LQQK at the intercooler in this pic. I'm thinking I might change the outlet tube connection to a bolt together joint instead of the hose clamp set-up. I can see that thing blowing off taking the dash with it. That might be bad for me knee & ears too. :-[

So, I had some time this weekend & I decided I'd get the hose & clamp set-up replaced. I pulled out the old slab of aluminum and started whittlin' away.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/flange4.jpg
Flipped one over & cut an o-ring groove

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/flange3.jpg
cleaned them up on the lathe & cut the mating surfaces for a nice air tight fit.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/flange5.jpg
Finished and ready to install.

My aluminum welding skills aren't the best, but I got 'em melted together.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/flange7.jpg
Intercooler side with o-ring

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/flange8.jpg
all bolted together and back in the caah.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/flange9.jpg
dash cover back in. No more hose & clamps. I feel safer with this set-up by my shin. I've seen some ugly footage of those clamps letting go.

That's what I did this weekend.

Worked on the bead roller today. I got rid of the hand crank and put a bicycle wheel in its place. Local bike shop gave it to me, it's a little bent, but it works for this deal. I figured the bigger the wheel the better control. I had to try it out, works a whole lot better now. . I made an aluminum table for the exit side. Loosen 1 thumb screw at the bottom and it lifts off a couple pins on the top. I scribed some lines every 2" as guides. no fence yet. I think I'll use it this way first and add a fence later.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Beadrollertable-1.jpg

Got the Vice mount done. I made a knee brace for those times when I feel the need to beat on the vise. Same brace will work on all the attachments.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Vise.jpg

....and I got the rack finished up tonight. Everything in easy reach, tucked away behind the door. Oh, I bent up some scrap sign aluminum also, to protect the wall.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Attachmentrack.jpg

I think I'm ready to start on the "Z" firewall now. I have to put a quick disconnect in the planishing hammer air line so I don't have to drag the foot pedal around. It's a pain in the hose this way.
