In BFGoodrich Tires Mean Street, Alan Von Ahnen has stepped it up with his fox body Mustang. The car has been upgraded with lighter Weld drag wheels and a fiberglass cowl hood to eliminate about 50-pounds from his combo. He’s hoping the upgrades will help improve the car’s best times here in Atlanta, but Von Ahnen plans on building an all-new, smaller cubic-inch small-block for the 2008 season. Look for this team to really step up their performances next season.

At the last race in Milan, Chicago resident Bob Vorderer cracked off a stellar 7.42 in GM Performance Parts Nostalgia Street trim, which could’ve set the record in the class if they were able to back it up, but rain prevented that from happening. Although the Vorderers were disappointed that the rainstorm in Milan stopped them from backing up the killer run, they are back here in Atlanta in hopes to repeat those numbers. The car is powered by a naturally aspirated 632 ci motor without spray, and it’s backed by a 5-speed manual transmission. Vorderer has the power to be a top player this weekend.

Former GM Performance Parts Nostalgia Pro Street champion, Tony Nesbitt is here this weekend with his newly upgraded ‘Vette for the NMCA’s outlaw class, Nitto Tire Super Street 10.5W. The car has a big Nelson/Sonny’s engine with three stages of Edelbrock/Induction Solutions nitrous oxide. The team has yet to take the new combo down the track, but everyone’s expecting good numbers.

Speaking of Super Street, Frank Mewshaw has brought his twin-turbo SBC Trans Am to the party here at Atlanta Dragway in hopes to grab some extra cash in the Shootout that’s going to be held during qualifying today. His boosted Pontiac has already been over 200 mph last year, so the car has big horsepower, if the Florida resident can get the power to the ground, he’ll be a top-running player this weekend.
