Well, MSD True Street fans and racers, 2006 was a banner year for the real street-driven machines in the NMCA. First and foremost, a big thank you is in order for MSD Ignition and Popular Hot Rodding magazine. Without you folks, there is no way this class would have grown as quickly as it has and blossomed into one of the premier categories of the NMCA.
Two HUGE milestones were achieved in the 2006 season. First, we had our first 8 second average (well, at least since the introduction of the infamous "Foldenauer Rules") from Adam Esterland at Maple grove with his 8.62 effort. I look forward to seeing the nitrous-assisted SBC-powered Mustang in the future, along with that speed-happy bunch from the Small Block Posse. Second, after all the smoke cleared at the NMCA World Finals in Memphis, Frank Savage emerged as our first 3-time MSD True Street Champion. His bad, blown, big block Caprice is a testament to true street cars everywhere. I would really like to see him participate in HRM's Drag Week next year. I think he would not only have a blast, but he would probably stand all of the other guys on their collective ears.
What is on the slate for the 2007 season? For myself, I am going to be attending all seven NMCA events, including the 2nd Annual Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing at Joliet. Based on last year's car count, this event should be off the hook. It should also be consideribly better (weather permitting) than last year's event. A TRUE 30-mile cruise is my goal this year! I will also be working closely with the local law enforcement folks to make sure our huge True Street procession does not get split up or lost as was the case at Maple Grove, last year. (Some cops drive WAY too fast!)
I am looking forward to seeing all the regular racers and crew. People like Terry Herbert, Robert Wilson, Tom Heatley, Sonny Smart and all the other guys who ran multiple events last year helped to make the 2006 season the biggest and best thus far. Thanks guys!
So.... what do all of the True Street racers have in store for next year? Is anyone building a new car or changing their combinations? Let's hear from all the TS guys (and gals!) as to what they will bringing to the table for the 2007 racing season. Let's see if we can get some rumors going. Someone get Mark Eggers on the horn and see how his twin-turbo Camaro is coming. Let's see if we can get Ferrucci to show up at a race away from Pennsylvania. I hear they really like pink cars in Florida, Paul! Now that Nova Joe has the proper equipment for his beautiful silver Deuce, maybe we can get him to show us a couple of 8-second blasts at Chicago or Bowling Green. Is Sonny Smart going to find some traction to hook up all that nitrous-fed big block Chevy power in his 39 Ford Coupe? Man, if he ever gets that thing to plant the tires, look out!
Come on folks, let's hear from you. What is going to be new and improved?
See you at the track.

Dang Ron I got so excited reading this I almost forgot I switched over to Extreme Street...
We may have the old Vette out at the Super Bowl race again doing the same thing it has over the last 4 (or is it 5) years....
I was blessed with being able to help with the True Street event in Georgia last year, and with any luck may help with some of the NMCA races that I can not run at in 2007...
Good Luck All... You have a GREAT class here!

George,
Your assistance was greatly appreciated and you are one of the best ambassadors this class has ever had. Thanks for your support of MSD True Street!

Steve C. here..................Probably not a huge change to the car for '07 but an intercooler might find it's way to us :) After having to slow the car for Super Boil '06 I finally got off my as* and had the chassis certified and myself licenced. With a little more chassis tuning we should be deep into the nines. Looking forwared to seeing you again in the new year.

Steve,
Good to hear from you, especially from the Great White North. I am very happy to see your coupe back together and performing well. Nines will be in the hunt, my friend, but I feel it is going to take an 8 to post a win at Joliet this year. Everyone is going to have to be on their game to take out that 79 Pace Car of Damon Dais. If he can make that car run nines by pounding the throttle blades flat with a hammer on top of his truck bumper, imagine what he will do with a REAL carburetor!
Real racers always seem to find great ways to improvise and adapt. Wouldn't you agree?

Yes, we are happy to have it all back together and running better than it ever has. We fought cog belt isues now it looks like it is behind us now. I really think that once we get the suspension in line a .20 should be attainable( with the present conservative tune)....likely not enough for Joliet but, who knows--I never thought that we would have came runner up this year with only a 10.14 avg. I really do hope that Damon will be there again as him and I raced each other back in '03 and the results were the same (he won and I r/u). Hopefully we can make Joliet in '07 but I was told by "The Boss" the the trailer better have A/C or I'll be making the trip solo.
Anyway, we hope that you have a great Christmas (ours will be green as it's 40' now and not a hint of snow in the forcast--just the way I like it) and we look forward to '07.

I was thinking about you the other day..... If you get your car to 60' you'll be quite surprise how it will run out the back door....
When 66 time comes around plan on coming down and we'll do a little tnt on your ride....

I like the sound of that. Up to now the best it has gone was a 1.42 I'm still launching relatively soft off the trans brake. I know that once we start playing with it, a mid 1.3 should be the norm. I recall BK Meyers telling me that if he went slower than a 1.30 then something was wrong--and we are making as much if not a bit more power than he was (we have most of his driveline ans weigh a bit less). I also have a new set of tires for it as I know the present ones are geting a litle worn.
Anyway George, you and the family have a great Christmas and thin of me as I am working that day...............talk soon.

Any word on a rule changes about fiberglass bumpers. Me myself would like to run my fiberglass bumpers. I would rather run my car with fiberglass bumpers than no bumpers at all but thats just me.

This is from the 2007 preliminary rules thread found in the "heads up class" forum:
BODY RULES:

Only permitted lightweight components are hood, front valance, rear valance, bumpers and rear trunk lid/hatch. Hood is required, may be made of lightweight material. Hood scoops permitted. Any rear wing permitted. OEM safety glass windows required & must be functional. Lexan prohibited.

this class looks to be pretty cool! since my car isn't considered to be a Late Model EFI, I can drive the wheels off of this car in this true street class :)
i can't afford to do multiple events but Milan is 45 minutes from home! excellent!

Thats the beauty of the NMCA TRUE STREET class which as Mark said in another post is the ORIGINATOR of this class. You can run just about anything that you claim to be a street car. If you can get it tagged, insured and inspected, Pass tech, have the right tires on it and make the 30 mile cruise in the heat. You can line it up and beat the death out of it. Bring it out at MILAN I think youll have a blast...
