I am in the process of converting what was once my show car into a street strip car, I would like to race my nova in the pro event that is closest to my home each year along with several visits to the local strip on weekends. After reading through the rules it appears my car really doesnt fall in any class due to one thing or another excluding me except possibly NMC, but i have a 4 3/4 " fiberglass cowl induction hood. My carb does not extend past my fender tops, only the air filter, if i switch to a drop base air cleaner i could use a factory hood. Does this exclude my car from being able to run this class or am i ok to run this hood?

Open Comp has a fairly loose set of Rules as well....
I have run my Extreme Street car on motor in this class and had fun.... Hope this helps....
True Street is also an excellent choice....

7.7 HOOD/SCOOP
HOOD/SCOOP: OEM or original appearing fiberglass hood permitted. Hoodscoops limited to OEM equipment or period style. Hood scoop may be no higher than 4 inches from hood surface. The entire induction system must be completely covered by hood or scoop, which must be part of the vehicle hood.
I don't think the cowl hood would be a problem itself but the height would be. There are several NSS cars using cowl type hoods.

Ya my hood is 3/4 inch to big, I already decided im gonna run true street for a year, try to make it to 3 or 4 events next year and see how it goes and then maybe jump to open comp. I still have alot of tuning to do to the car, ran some test and tune for the first time on the first pass was a 15.3, about made me puke, went back did some adjusting and ran 3 14.3's. still want to vomit, after doing some fine tooth combing throughout everything, i found my throttle plates were only opening about half way on the carb, the mechanical advance on the distributor was screwed up so I locked it out and set my initial timing to be my final timing at 34 degrees, My carb was way to rich for the engine and was flooding it out causing a horrible stumble, so I down jetted it. and I was running 93 octane with 12-1 compresssion  so, im going back this saturday again, with everything fixed and some 110 octane and hopefully i can hit 12's or 11's, i know the car has it in it, just gotta fine tune and find it.
