Can you tell me how to measure valve angle on Ford heads? Are C-460 and B-441 hemi heads illegal for NPS? What are their valve angles? Does this only aply to Chevies? Thanks

Skip,
Place an angle finder on the mating surface of the head. Zero the meter, then place it on the valve stem. The number you get on the valve stem, subtract it from 90 and this should get you your valve angle.
The heads are legal, as long as they fall into the 14º min. valve angle.
As for the valve angles of the heads you listed, they must meet the 14º rule. The factory valve angle means very little.
The rule does not apply only Chevrolet.

Because all of the competitive heads that I know of including the C,D,E,and three generations of hemi heads all have less than a 14* valve angle. Fords will be limited to the A head or Cobra Jet head which can be made to flowjust over 400 cfm. Good luck trying to compete with Chevies that flow over 500.

I think that you need to consider the fact that Ford big blocks are much larger than Chevy big blocks, especially across the valley and the oil pan rails. This makes for less valve angle and no grinding to allow stroker cranks up to 4.750.

Skip,
The issue you bring to this form will be addressed with the rules committee in Florida. Please check on the rule revision in the near future.
Thank you.
