trans brake

Has anyone ever had a powerglide trans brake work sometimes and then other times it will not? It will just roll through the lights. I installed a new solenoid it clicks everytime but sometimes will not hold the car at all. Thanks for any help.

I had a problem a while back with my trans brake not holding. It turned out the battery voltage was to low. It did not effect anything else though. I figured out what the problem was finally by hooking up battery charger, putting it on high, and stalling the car in the parking lot. Once we figured it out, it never happened again.

I had the same problem. It may sound stupid, but I changed from Dexron type fluid to type F and the problem went away. It may have been a little trash in the solenoid and the fluid change flushed it out, but it works now. What Rick says makes good sense too.
