I'm considering traveling to the Memphis race in Oct. I'm a bracket racer, so I'm trying to understand the rules in your classes. It looks like open comp is the only class I might fit into.

I have a big block Duster, it's backhalved, 4-link, trans-brake, air shifter, and alcohol. Can someone tell me if I'm good to run open comp? I'm just looking to get out of town for a weekend and have some fun with my car and some friends. Your race looks like a good time.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark ,

Your car sounds like a serious ride. The quickest ET you are allowed is 9.10 in qualifying.

3 qualifying passes. The quickest pass is your index for Sunday.(no changes) A 10th breakout is allowed on that index.

We race on a sportsman ladder.

No delay box or throttle stops permitted.

The air shifter is not allowed in the car also.

.500 Pro tree

Come on out and race in the class with the biggest car count and have a good time.

Thanks, Now I understand how my index is established, but what do you mean by 1/10 breakout is allowed? Also, what is a typical car count in that class?

This how your index is determined and how the 1/10th breakout figures in.

Saturday Qualifying
1st pass= 10.23
2nd pass= 10.15
3rd pass= 10.20

Sunday index(which is fixed and can not be changed regardless of circumstance) is

10.05 which equals your fastest qualifing pass minus 1/10th.

Typical car counts are 18-32 cars.

When I converted my car from brackets to open comp these were the main things I had to change.

1. no delay box
2. no air/electric shifter. All shifts are made by driver
3. no throttle stops, mechanical or electronic
4. racing is 1/4 mile on a .500 pro tree

A good place to review class rules is the online rule book which can be found via the home page. Don't forget to read the NHRA rule book for et and speed requirments. They have a through safety inspection.

Come out and race, this is a great bunch of competitors.

Jamie, thanks for the reply. Looks like I would just need to remove my air shifter to be legal. Just so I understand the 'indexing', using your example above. My fastest pass is 10.15 so my index on Sunday is 10.05.

Now we are basically bracket racing with a dial in that can't be changed, right? If I run 10.050 I'm good, if I run 10.049 I breakout. Is that it in a nutshell?

That's it in a nutshell.

.500 pro tree bracketracing, with a dial in (index) that can't be changed. You are also right about the breakout.

Look forward to meeting you in Memphis.

Folks,

I am hoping that I can turn MSD True Street into the largest class at the PRO events. We have steadily been gaining cars for this unique and always fun event. MSD True Street offers a great weekend of racing as we endure a 30 mile cruise (30.5 miles in Reading!) through the beautiful surrounding countryside, make 3 back to back passes on the dragstrip, award prizes to up to 8 competitors and receive a FREE ENTRY into the Sunday Toyo Tire Bracket Challenge. I am working towards the day when we have 30-50 MSD True Street cars. We had 24 show up in Reading, but I had to disqualify 3 of them for safety tech reasons. Nonetheless, everyone had a great time. Incidentally, Superchips Open Comp had a whopping 48 entries at the 3rd Annual Stewart Warner Performance PRO Hotrod and Muscle Car Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway! That was a great turnout.

Mark, you did not indicate if your car was still street driven, but it sounds like a monster that would really wake 'em up in MSD True Street. Besides, I am a big Mopar fan. I would like to see some representation of the Pentastar faithful in MSD True Street. If you are interested, or would like more info, you can contact me @ RWard875@AOL.com

Gettin' ready for Hotlanta!
