While NMCA VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod standout Adam Flamholc was sidelined for some time after last summer’s wreck, he was back in the driver’s seat for the U.S. Street Nationals in late January at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida.
Because his 1963 Corvette was heavily damaged in the wreck, however, he was debuting a new chassis built by Chris Duncan Race Cars wearing a carbon 1963 Corvette body and powered by a Hameetman Racing Engines-built 526ci Hemi engine, Mike Janis-massaged roots-style supercharger and a Bruno converter drive with a Lenco Racing CS2 transmission.
Flamholc, who was among the nominees for 2017 NMCA Driver of the Year, picked up right where he left off and was laying down 3.83s and 197 mph, and while he was poised to go even quicker and faster in the first round of eliminations at the event, his chutes deployed and prevented him from advancing.
“It felt really good to finally be back in a race car again,” said Flamholc, whose supporters include Chris Duncan Race Cars, Hameetman Racing Engines, 5 Days Plantation Shutters & Blinds, Malmo Motorrenovating, R&R Racing Products, Line2Line Coatings and Amalie Oil. “Since I’ve been racing year-round for about ten years, maybe this ‘break’ was good for me. I’m really motivated now. As we speak, I’m in the process of building two engines (both 526ci) with a PSI screwblower instead of the roots blower setup. I’m also changing the transmission (to a Brunodrive with a two-speed Lenco) and some chassis settings to fit the new engine and transmission.”
Flamholc, who works at Hameetman Racing Engines in Florida when he’s in the United States, recently flew home to Sweden but will return to the United States in a few days to wrap up work on the car for a test session before taking part in the highly-anticipated 16th Annual NMCA Muscle Car Mayhem, March 8-11 at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida.
After coming oh-so-close to capturing the NMCA VP Racing Fuels Xtreme Pro Mod championship in 2017, all eyes will be on Flamholc, who also plans to compete in PDRA Pro Extreme as part of a two-car team for 5 Days Plantation Shutters & Blinds.
“When I get back to Florida, my plan is to finish the car in a couple of days and test it so that I’m ready for the NMCA event in Bradenton in March,” said Flamholc. “I really like to race with the NMCA. (It has) very friendly and helpful people.”
