For the NMCA, the 7th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing Presented by Miller Welders event that is held at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois is the fourth of seven stops on the 2012 tour. As the swing event in the points chase, this means that the racers in each class are looking to position themselves well for a second-half charge to the top of the points standings. Couple that with the fact that the Super Bowl event is always chock-full of drama and record-setting passes and also has the NMRA contingent on the property, and you have one hell of a drag race event. This event is one of the most popular on the tour, and the excellent track surface at Route 66 is one of the main reasons why. Last year at this event, Randy Adler topped the qualifying sheet in Kooks Headers Pro Street with an outstanding 6.001 at 237 MPH before going on to run the table during eliminations and come out as the event winner. Bob Kurgan blistered the track in CFE Xtreme Street during qualifying with an awesome 7.81 – a pass that stands today as the quickest in Xtreme Street although he wasn’t able to back it up as a record. As you can see, the racing action will be second-to-none, and if there’s one event that should be on your schedule this season – this is it! Over the last several years, the Route 66 surface has been home to many record-setting passes and more than a few wild and wooly rides from some of the world’s top small-tire competitors. There will be more than 30 race classes across both sanctioning bodies, and the car show will be full of incredible machines. True Street will also be full of the nation’s quickest real street cars vying for the right to say they were the ‘King Of Illinois’ for 2012. And last year in the Super Bowl portion of the event, the NMRA came out on top over the NMCA for the fourth time in six years – will the NMCA’s class winners be able to close the gap this year? You’ll only know if you show up, so make your plans now! How do I get to race in this awesome event? In addition, the NMRA and NMCA will be running their world-famous TREMEC True Street class at this event. Last year’s race was populated by 44 cars, led by Bethalto, Illinois’ Tim Gehrs and his ’82 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Tim was able to crack off an awesome 9.52 three-run average after making the thirty-mile tour, an outstanding feat when you take into account the temperatures his car must have seen due to the Midwest’s intense July heat.
