After two seasons of pounding the pavement in his naturally-aspirated ’68 Mustang in the ARP Nostalgia Pro Street class, Chuck DeMory, Jr. is planning a move to the Kooks Custom Headers Pro Street class for the 2012 season, and powering the already-beastly car will be a ProCharger F3 supercharger.
“Dave Werremeyer from ProCharger felt confident that between the ProCharger F3 and the crank drive unit that debuted at PRI, our current combination and racing experience, ProCharger would be in the Pro Street winner’s circle, and we’re confident we can manage the power that the ProCharger will provide through the big tires and Jerry Bickel chassis,” said DeMory, Jr., who has driven the car since high school. “The car is very unique in the fact that it was a true street car, not a Pro Modified car with a narrowed carbon-fiber body. It has steel quarters, roof and A-pillars, and it will have a new look because we’re ditching the large hood scoop and fiberglass front end for a lightweight carbon fiber front end with a cowl hood.”
DeMory, Jr.s 640 cubic-inch big-block Ford with Thor Gen 2 heads is being modified by Kris Nelson of Nelson Competition, Inc. and John Marcella of Marcella Manifolds is making a custom EFI manifold with dual fuel rails and a size-extra large throttle body. The fuel will be delivered by a Waterman Lil’ Bertha pump and dual Precision injectors and Dave Klaput of Proformance Racing Transmissions will manage the three-speed. The Coan billet aluminum converter will get a new stator and the Fab Shop headers will be modified to side-dumps with horns.
Jason Lee and Patrick Barnhill of PTP Racing will tune the car using Big Stuff 3 and Goodyear tires will help get the car’s 3000-plus horsepower to the ground. DeMory, Jr. hopes to debut the new combination at the Georgia or Maryland NMCA race. His dad, former IHRA Pro Stock racer Chuck DeMory, Sr. will resume his role as crew chief and Jeff Graf will continue to contribute his tuning knowledge to the Illinois-based team.
