The NMRA, building on the success of their 2009 Houston, Texas event, will combine with the NMCA series to produce one of the largest muscle car events of the year…the 2nd Annual Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Lone Star Shootout at Houston Raceway Park in Houston, Texas the weekend of Nov. 12-14, 2010. Tommie Vaughn will join over 30 vendors on the manufacturers midway so be sure to hit the ATM on your way to Houston to get great deals on the parts you need for your muscle car.

Route 66 in the Books!
Date: Sunday, July 18

Scorpion Pro Street drew fifteen competitors to the famous Route 66 Raceway. After an intense three rounds of qualifying, Chris Rini topped the field with a 6.18 at 232 mph, followed by Joe Dunne who ran a 6.24, and coming in third on the list was John Sullivan with a 6.31. It was Billy Glidden and Joe Dunne who had the cars to beat this hot weekend, and both met up in the finals in a classic Chevy versus Ford match up. When the tree fell, a holeshot from Dunne and some tire slip from Glidden resulted in the Pat Musi-tuned Chevy getting the event win for the second year in a row. In the NMRA versus NMRA runoff, Dunne faced the NMRA’s Turbonetics Pro Outlaw winner, Mike Murillo
In Mickey Thompson Super Street 10.5W, Mike Yedgarian ended up on the pole with his newly rebuilt Pontiac, running a 6.75 at 214 mph, but Nick Scavo, who qualified mid-pack, also had his sights set on the Nitto Diamond Tree Super Bowl Championship Ring. Both twin-turbo machines met in the finals and when the lights dropped, Scavo left on Yedgarian, but the Pontiac was able to outrun Scavo’s purple machine to get the win, the first for this Canadian team. Yedgarian raced the winner of ProCharger Super Street Outlaw, Sam Vincent, but lost.
ARP Nostalgia Pro Street drew a twenty-car field, with Dave Beeson topping the bunch for the second race in a row. Unfortunately he broke, and it was Kevin Parent and Jim Jarrett who rose to the top. The finals between these two resulted in a close match, but in the end, Parent prevailed with a 7.41 to 7.56 race. Parent then beat EFI Renegade racer Bob Cook in the Super Bowl shootout.
In Vortech Xtreme Street, Bill Trovato ran an 8.00 at 171 mph to qual . . .

Sunday News From Route 66
Date: Sunday, July 18

In Vortech Superchargers Xtreme Street, Jamie Stanton has been one of the most consistent this weekend. He qualified second to Bill Trovato with a 8.06 at 173 mph, then busted an 8.11 at 175 in round one. He is set to face the wicked Nova of Steve Cagle in round two and currently sits in the points lead.

BFGoodrich Street Radial saw Mike Fratena take out Jay Canella with a 8.90 at 158 mph run in the first round. This former class champ won the event at Maple Grove Raceway last month, and currently sits third in points. In round two he is slated to race Heath Shemwell who ran a killer 8.89 in round one, so this semi-final will be an interesting one.

In Scorpion Performance Pro Street, Chris Rini laid down a killer run in qualifying to grab the number one slot (6.18 at 232.19 mph), and followed it up by another wicked pass in the first round of eliminations, this time a 6.20 at an identical 232.19 mph to claim the record. He races the blown Camaro of Tony Williams in round two.

In Mickey Thompson Super Street 10.5W, Mickey Rees was able to not only break into the 6-second zone with his Metz Performance Camaro, but he also ran over 200 mph against Jim Robbins in the first round of eliminations yesterday, so It looks like this team is getting a handle on this ride. He is set to face Bill Lutz in round two.

Saturday News
Date: Saturday, July 17

After a terrible wreck last year, Canada’s Mike Yedgarian is back at the NMCA with a newly rebuilt Pontiac Firebird. He topped the field yesterday with a smooth 6.75 at “only” 214 mph. Rumor has it this car has already been much quicker than that in testing, although we’re not sure at what weight. Frank Mewshaw, Bill Lutz, and Jim Robbins are right behind him with their own 6.8X passes.

Dave Beeson out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana has been working on his big-block Chevy combo and he’s obviously found something because for the second race in a row, Beeson shattered the ARP Nostalgia Pro Street record with a 7.24 at 197.80 mph.

Mario Orsini is here this weekend with his ’57 Chevy sporting a brand new twin-turbo combination. So far he’s only made some soft hits, running only 8.49, but it’s a cool car nonetheless and we expect it to run better today.

Bill Trovato topped the Vortech Xtreme Street field yesterday when he busted an 8.00 at 171 mph. Andy and Cam Mayes are helping him this weekend after their Mopar broke a couple weeks before the race. Nipping at his heels is Jamie Stanton with an 8.06. It will be interesting to see if anyone can out qualify them today because there are about 13 other cars here that have the power to be number one as well.

Last night Chris Rini ran a killer 6.18 at 232, the quickest and fastest pass in the class’ history. Coming in second was John Sullivan with a 6. . . .
