NMCA Milan Wrap-up
Date: Sunday, August 29

A packed house and great racing action was the result of the NMCA’s trip to Milan Dragway in Milan, MI the weekend of August 27-29, 2010. As this is the NMCA’s sixth race of seven, the points chase in each class was on the line and the end result was some fantastic racing action.

In the Scorpion Performance Pro Street class, Chris Rini took his ’07 Dodge Stratus straight to the top of the qualifying ladder as he re-set the national record to a 6.16 during Saturday’s sessions. There, Noel Felton gathered a series of gifts, first from Troy Coughlin when Coughlin had some fluid leakage on the starting line, then a redlight from Jeff Lutz and a bye run into the final. On the other side of the ladder, Rini decimated the competition to meet up with Felton for the finals. Felton rolled in first, but when the tree came down he redlit, while Rini turned in an unbelievable 6.15 at over 231 MPH to take the win.

Mickey Thompson’s Super Street class saw Frank Mewshaw run just .008 slower than the national record to take the top qualifying spot. As eliminations progressed, Bill Lutz took out Jim Robbins and Larry Prykucki, then scored the semifinal bye on his way to the finals. On the other side of the ladder, Tony Nesbitt lit the red in the semi, sending Rob Golobo on to meet Lutz in the final. There, after a bit of timing-system drama, Lutz took the win over Golobo.

Chuck Demory Jr. rocketed to the top of the ARP Nostalgia Pro Street field during qualifying, unleashing an awesome 7.28 at 187 MPH during Saturday’s sessions. Eliminations saw Jeff Colletta blaze through his side of the ladder to end up in the finals against Demory . . .

Sunday News from Milan Dragway
Date: Sunday, August 29

Just when you thought he couldn’t get any quicker, Chris Rini re-set the Scorpion Performance Pro Street elapsed time record again yesterday during the qualifying sessions. His unbelievable 6.16 blast came attached to a top speed of over 231 miles per hour, and he’s in prime position to take home the cheese at this event with his top-qualifier status.

Even though Friday night’s qualifying session was run in near 50-degree temperatures, prime atmosphere for a naturally-aspirated car, Chuck DeMory bettered his ARP Nostalgia Pro Street effort during yesterday’s sessions. His Holbrook-powered, big-block Ford machine clicked off an outstanding 7.28 at 187.44 MPH to lead the field into today’s elimination sessions. He faces off against Rob White in the first round this morning.

Bill Lutz won the Mickey Thompson Super Street 10.5W race over Tony Nesbitt, which was carried over from Charlotte. Lutz advanced on a single, while Nesbitt ousted Frank Mewshaw in the semis. In the final, Nesbitt was way late on the tree, giving up a much quicker 6.90 to Lutz¹s 7.16.

Mike Fratena has been hard at work on his BFGoodrich Tires Street Radial entry. The small-block Chevy is powered by a blow-through turbocharged setup, and has run big numbers before, but yesterday he eclipsed the class record by nearly a tenth during his qual . . .

News From Milan
Date: Saturday, August 28

For the past three races, competitors in ARP Nostalgia Pro Street have been chasing Dave Beeson during qualifying as Beeson consistently put his Camaro into the 7.2-zone. Beeson isn't here this weekend, but that didn't mean we haven't seen anyone run as fast. Last night Chuck DeMory Jr., and his Mustang hammered out a run of 7.29 at 186 MPH to top the field. Jim Jarrett is second with a 7.34.

We have good news for anyone that follows the NMCA and its racers. ARP Nostalgia Pro Street competitor Barbara Nesbitt has been released from the hospital and is home recuperating from the devastating driveline failure she experienced at the recent event held at zMax Dragway in North Carolina. In a show of racer support, the JEGS team of Troy Coughlin donated a tire cover for each of the racers and fans to sign for Barbara. She is not healed enough to be here this weekend, as partner and crew chief Billy Adams had to handcuff her to keep her at home. Get well soon Barb!!

Mickey Thompson Super Street competitor Frank Mewshaw showed up to Milan Dragway ready to rock. So far he is sitting at the top of the qualifying ladder, as he carded an awesome 6.758 at 217.32 blast during last evening’s qualifying session, just .009 slower than the class record. He is scheduled to compete in not only this event, but also the completion of the zMax semifinal and final rounds of competition here this weekend against Bill Lutz and Tony Nesbitt.
